3,000 School Kids Get New Shoes From Malls

Some 3,000 pupils from public elementary schools in Bulacan can now attend classes in comfort after receiving school shoes from SM Malls on Monday.

The new pairs of shoes were distributed to students of Loma De Gato and Patulo Elementary Schools in Marilao town, Tungkong Mangga Elementary School in the City of San Jose Del Monte and Engr. Vicente R. Cruz Memorial School in Baliwag.

The SM Supermalls has donated over 60,000 pairs of new shoes to indigent children nationwide as part of its 60th anniversary celebration this year.

“This campaign is very close to our hearts,” said Bernadette Velasco, SM City Marilao mall manager.

“SM’s shoe drive signifies our humble beginnings, our milestone, our legacy & our pledge in making our communities better. After all, our company started out with shoes,” she added.

Loma De Gato Elementary School principal Rhea Malabanan said many parents struggle to provide their children with school shoes hence, pupils often use slippers or even come to school barefoot.

Dr. Flordeliza Limon of Tungkong Mangga Elementary School in the City of San Jose Del Monte said many parents are not able to send their children to school because they lack resources to buy the needed supplies including shoes.

Through the donation from SM Supermalls, she said many students are now motivated to go to school. (PNA)
