YouTube Adds Channel Memberships To Help You Support Your Favorite Creators

YouTube continues to introduce new ways to help content creators gain more opportunities in earning profit from their channels.

In a statement posted in YouTube last June 21, Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan announced Channel Memberships, a membership program which gives viewers access to special content from the creators in exchange for a $4.99 subscription fee.

The special features of the Channel Membership includes access to unique badges, new emojis, Members-only posts in the Community tab, and custom perks offered by creators such as exclusive live streams, extra videos, or shout-outs.

Once Channel Memberships is launched, YouTube will start expanding it to eligible channels. To be eligible for Channel Memberships, the channel must have more than 100,000 subscribers and is a member of the YouTube Partner Program.

Mohan said that creators that have experimented with the feature have been met with encouraging results.

“YouTube creators are the heartbeat of our platform,” Mohan said. “That’s why we’re committed to building products that empower and support the creator community. We hope these tools help creators build a stronger community and earn more money while doing it, because when they succeed, the entire YouTube community thrives.”
